Our Mission 

South Mississippi Ballet Theatre is dedicated to bringing the highest level of classical ballet training to the Hattiesburg area. It is our goal to educate both children and adults about the training, culture and history of classical ballet while offering them a chance to pursue the art in whatever capacity they choose. It is our hope that every student that walks through our doors will come to both love and respect the art of ballet, to increase their sense of self worth, and to gain a deeper knowledge and respect about the world around them. We strive to offer our students an environment that is both caring and disciplined with special attention given to the individual needs of each and every student.

What We Do

At SMBT, we teach students from age 3 through adult. By implementing high-quality ballet training at every level, we can ensure that each of our students will get the most out of what SMBT has to offer. While we are training our students, we give them outlets to show the public what they have learned. With our annual production of The Nutcracker, as well as a fall and spring ballet, our students will have the opportunity to perform as much as they like.

SMBT is confident in what our students are able to accomplish. Each August, the Artistic Director selects certain dancers to join our competition team. Our team competes in international competitions such as Youth America Grand Prix and World Ballet Competition. These competitions give the dancers opportunities to be seen by Artistic Directors and School Directors from throughout the world. The competitions are ballet based, and the top prizes are scholarships to major ballet academies and contracts with international ballet companies. If selected, each dancer will be coached extensively in the classical repertory and in contemporary ballet to compete as a soloist, as well as preparing select ensemble pieces from major classical ballets. Auditions for our competitive team is open to the public, however if selected the dancer will be required to meet a class schedule that will ensure that they will be properly prepared.

Our dancers have consistently received acceptances and scholarships to major ballet schools, such as The Kirov Academy, The Bolshoi Academy, Boston Ballet School, Harid Conservatory, Houston Ballet Academy, and National Ballet of Canada.
